Niamh Gets His Message Through
A quick story about Niamh. Yesterday I was sitting on the porch step when Niamh walked up to me saying some word that I can't quite make out. At the same time, he is holding his hands up and opening and closing them repeatedly. This gesture usually means he wants picked up, but he usually says "up" rather than the unintelligible word he was using this time. I asked him, "Niamh, do you want up?" "No," he replies. I asked him a few other things that didn't fit his desire and then asked him again, "Niamh, what do you want?" He then walks over to his tricycle, puts his hand on the handle bar and says "co, co", which of course means "cold." He then goes back to the original gesture and word which then became crystal clear...GLOVES! His hands are cold. So I asked, "Niamh, do you want gloves?" "Yeah," he said.
