West Coast Vacation

This week has been an eventful one! We have traveled across the country to Oregon to visit Shawna’s Sister. We have seen a God’s Glory displayed through His beautiful creation. It will take several postings to show you even a portion of the many pictures we have taken.

One of the first hikes we took was in the very northwest corner of Oregon, near Astoria. This hike took us up high on a mountain where, on a clear day, you can see for miles. You can see a light house, the vast Pacific Ocean, and the rocky shores below. Now, this hike was the first long one with the kids and we had not figured out when the kids were going to get their naps or how they were going to do in the kid packs for so long. Well, these problems solved themselves as they kids really got a kick out of riding on Daddy’s and Aunt Risha’s backs, and Conlin fell sound asleep in no time. Alina was having a little more difficulty falling asleep, but I finally told her, “Alina, close your eyes and go to sleep.” And guess what she did. She closed her eyes, and within 30 seconds was sound asleep in her pack. I couldn’t believe it. She continued to sleep for a good 45 minutes and awoke refreshed. After we get home, I will post a video of this here.

Anyhow, we continued up to this great view. As we hiked a dense fog rolled in from the sea and by the time we made it to the overlook, the fog was so dense we could see little more than the weeds at the edge of the cliff we stood over. (Actually we could see straight down to the rocky crags below, but that was all.) As we hiked down, though, we walked below the fog to another couple of overlooks where we were able to see the lighthouse, the Ocean, and the rocky shores below. It was very beautiful and some of those pictures are shown here.

Wow sounds like fun...I don't think I've ever hiked before...pretty sad huh? Well I'm glad to hear the trip went well. You are very brave to take such a long flight and long hike with 2 wild toddlers :) Hopefully Justin and I will be that brave when we have our two.

Just beautiful! Can't wait till I'm out hiking again. So, Oregon would explain why I have been calling and getting no answer at your house for the past week :)
