Syrup Season 2010

Syrup Season has finally come. To our recollection we have never had this much snow for tapping or gathering. We hung our 300 buckets and have gathered 5 or 6 times and now I think we are about done. It has not frozen since Tuesday and is not supposed to freeze again until next Tuesday and be in the 50s and 60s in the mean time.

We got to do all the fun syrup stuff with the kids though. I took the twins with me one weekend to tap with Mic's family. The next weekend I took Niamh to gather sap and make syrup. Then midweek this week I took a couple of days and went with all 6 of us to gather sap and make syrup again. All the great 'syrupy' things to do were enjoyed. We had fresh syrup on bananas. Niamh and Alina loved this. We drank fresh sap. Conlin, Alina, Niamh, and I loved this. We had fuit pies from the fire, marshmallos, and hotdogs. It was quite enjoyable.

In the pictures here you can see all of us riding on the buldozer and mud sled. If we are done for the year, we only made about 25 gallons. It was still worth it.
